@sheepnik Ok now I am confused. I learned a petticoat was one of those big tule skirts you put under your skirt in the fifties to make it widen. Or little girls wear them. Surely not that is meant here 🤔 (flannel??)

@SonjaS It's a variation on that - a warm underskirt to be worn under a dress. Flannel is a brushed woven fabric, so tends to quite warm. Something like this https://maggiemayfashions.com/shop/historical-dress/romantic/winter-flannel-petticoat/
