I am more and more certain I don't want my desktop or UX to be "modernized" if it means what these designers keep saying it means.

Give me borders, boxes, structure, bars (scroll bars too), handles to grab onto that aren't paper thin, less animation, less flatness (including flat icons), less transparency, less invisible scrolling content (doubly so if its endless) and please stop rounding everything, it's *good* if pixels have sharp/crisp edges.

Given me a little skeuomorphism as a treat!

@cararemixed gosh could you imagine if "modern UI" would mean an upgrade insofar of integrating current research in helpful and easy UX design? And like you would sit there pressing on the update button and be actually happy 'cuz u know it will be good?

What a world that would be

@gilesgoat I use something similar to that kind of window frame, progman. (I usually use cwm but I am experimenting with more mouse based flows again). Simple and usable. Icons are obscured a bit on the desktop but I have lots of status info there. I've patched the C code a little to make it work more to my liking (it works fine out of the box but I am experimenting with my own ideas) but it's tiny amounts of code so very easy to deal with vs multi-million line systems of gnome or kde.

a few programs running with an oldschool windows 3.1 look and feel.

@cararemixed @gilesgoat I do miss a nice scroll at you can grab and a window border that is an easy target for resizing.

I also miss the T480 machines I’ve owned. Sold my last one a few months ago. Great machines.

My buddy @faraiwe and I lament constantly of the desktops of yore, mostly BeOS.
