You might think that Star Trek is a show about exploration, about science, about morality, about what humanity is capable of if we truly embrace the best of ourselves. That is a misconception! Star Trek is, in fact, a show about the weirdest chairs you've ever seen.
@aysamanra
Many of them you can buy: https://www.ex-astris-scientia.org/database/chairs-trek.htm
@aysamanra The Christa McAuliffe planeterium in Concord, NH, has an exhibit that's just like "hey check it out we bought star trek chairs at a prop auction!" and that's it. Took these photos there in 2017.
@srol @aysamanra you will know it is the future when our chairs are extra goofy
Jun 16, 2025, 9:25 AMSomething very very similar to those white wrinkly sofas were in a bunch of astonishingly fashionable Paris furniture stores a year or so ago. They're modular and can be bent into any configuration. Plus they're quite low and space efficient for the amount of seating vs the footprint.
But they're not as lushly amazing as that Spock chair, which I would absolutely get … and then have no space for because I am too easily amazed by chairs and my house has been overrun with them.
