Mini candy bars too expensive. Going a different way for trick or treaters this year.

BC, advance voting ends everywhere at 8pm PT today. Don't delay!

This is a pivotal election for our province. As a British Columbian, I’m deeply concerned about what a BC Conservative government would do to our province, particularly the most vulnerable folks in our communities.

I’ll be doing my part to defeat the Conservatives and elect a progressive government by voting for my NDP candidate Lara Honrado on Saturday.

You can find when and where to vote here: https://wheretovote.elections.bc.ca/

It has been *checks notes* 0 days since I last mistakenly thought that because clicking on the volume icon in Apple Music on Mac opens the volume slider, clicking on it again closes it.

Silly me. Of course clicking on it again mutes the sound. It’s only ogical.

dist users: I’ve published a point release of dist which updates crates containing certificate lists to ensure the recently-revoked eMudhra certificates are no longer trusted. https://github.com/axodotdev/cargo-dist/releases/tag/v0.33.1

@kookie based on current trends, our sophisticated models predict that the next funny number is -120

The PHP #security issue shows once again how much our society relies on mostly volunteer work.

Look at PHP Foundation @thephpf finances:
https://opencollective.com/phpfoundation#category-BUDGET

- Reimbursed $67K on development work this year
- Received: $642,755 last year

Compare these numbers with the amounts companies have made with products & services built upon #PHP. Our digital foundations are built on the backs of #opensource volunteers. Governments & companies need to invest in our common digital infrastructures.

📣 Announcing the immediate availability of:

Catching up. Not sure what the big deal is supposed to be https://www.php.net/manual/php4.php

Out of an abundance of caution, we are putting our services in maintenance mode until we update to the latest PHP version.

If you're also coming to this "random number 4" thing via everyone's shitposts, the bugzilla is a good read for actual details: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=2083449#c11

So if anyone on FreeBSD is wondering how to untrust the leaked CAs now:

1. Go to /usr/share/certs/untrusted
2. Create a new file for each root, with the cert info (Can be found here: https://emudhra.we-have-a-problem.com/roots.json)
3. Run certctl rehash

Same for jails, I copied the files into my Jail base release and ran a quick rehash in all of the.

EDIT: Patch is now available https://www.freebsd.org/security/advisories/FreeBSD-SA-26:73.caroot.asc

Was digging out my old Asuka 120% files, and I completely forgot I did the name tiles in Pixen for Mac. Was funny realizing I had nothing installed that could open the files.

Went on a wild goose chase: remembered a particular broken chiptune player I really liked from way back when, but couldn't figure out what it was. But I found it! And I've got a recording of the broken-down chiptune of my dreams for you: https://www.mistys-internet.website/blog/blog/2026/08/01/searching-for-the-broken-down-chiptune-player-of-my-dreams/

Really enjoying the iPod’s album shuffle, but it definitely is reminding me just how *much* it’s got to shuffle! Actually pretty impressive the shuffle doesn’t take too long

Thanks to a couple people for helping, I’ve found the answer. This is actually about Spotlight, and the setting it was telling me about is in the Spotlight settings.

The help text turns out to have been completely misleading and pointed me at the wrong place in the settings.

EDIT: got it, see the quote post for explanation.

Hey Mac users: I noticed that on macOS 27 the cmd+ctrl+D look up shortcut popped up an info message telling me about new customized content settings I should look at in settings, but… I can’t find the settings anywhere, and the message no longer appears! anyone know what this is?

Honestly kind of remarkable how quickly I've gotten exhausted by Steam next fests. They happen so often now it feels hard to pay full attention to them anymore.
