    I don't follow how a local, "free as in beer" model does that.

    We already see that there is no rational connection between "there being a regular business case for it" and "them doing what they do".

    Even the subscription prices don't really offset the massive insane "investment" they made.

    Heck, the entire thing is so utterly unhinged, implying a rational connection between the real world and what "THEY" do, actually requires some supportive arguments. (1/2?)

    Like, for an action to have a rational consequence, we require that the entire thing is rational in the first place.

    Does that make sense?

    If we were talking about rare metals, electronics components, labor standards and the global economy, *there* is a chain of interactions and a system of conflicting interests: wanting things to be cheap and labor conditions to be good. That's a system and we can "tip the scale".
