  @twifkak @crystalmoon generally sitting down and talking about it is a good first step. Distancing yourself from someone is sometimes the only option, but generally it's the last option because it starts to end the relationship.

  there is a common formulary:

  when they give you a shove, you shove back, hard. then they don't shove anymore

  while if you retreat, they take that as invite to pursue and do worse

  the truth of course is that the proper approach is entirely situational and depends mightily on nuance of context

  and also of course, the end result of both approaches is that you achieve distance

  so "seek distance" still works as a summary, it's just a matter of the devil in the details: how
