The original is things that go bump in the night -- an old litany, it is said, from Cornwall or maybe Scotland. I hae my doots. The earliest witness is 1909.
My upstairs neighbor started moving house around midnight and I reflected in my bed that I was more afraid of trucks backing up than mysterious bumps.

I can't tell if you're talking about a video game, a bug infestation that got out of hand, or an alien invasion that just joined forces with demons escaping from hell.
Might it be a variation on the theme of a nursery rhyme?
