    @dalfen I actually had that same thing happened to me the merchant said out loud my email and I was like how do you have my email I've never been here

    @xlv The merchant said the exact same thing to me — said my information out loud!
    And I think it might've even been the town I lived in too (or something, it was a bit ago), and I was like, "How do you know all this?"

    @dalfen It must have been what you read about Square ⬛ that they stored our information 😔

    @xlv Exactly!

    I actually meant to post about this before, but I got sidetracked with all the other things I talk about on here lol

    But this is actually really important because we make purchases locally and don't even think about it — exactly how are they taking our money? If they use these POS systems from Square, Square benefits by storing all of our information and sharing it with their partners and advertisers as well — and we often don't know, never mind consent!

    @dalfen
    Yeah, I had that wtf moment when I got receipts emailed to me from a business I had never given my email address to. Worked out that my physio had my email address and used Square (I probably consented to them emailing me receipts, I can't remember), and now everywhere with Square can email me 🫩

    @dalfen I have thought about that a lot. All the privacy policies and terms of services that we haven't given consent to all because someone uses a vendor.

    @dalfen That's really concerning - the thing is who else has access to the data they've collected?

    I'm in the UK, so I don't think 'square' is over here, but I've noticed something similar when I'm online.

    A couple of times I've wandered onto a site as a 'visitor', (anonymously, I thought), yet, somehow they already had my email which popped up on the name/address page.

    I assumed they were 'hacking' my phone, so I got off the site/cleared cookies...🤔 but maybe it's something more like this?
