So now we realize the problem with the Amnesty report, which resulted in a fucking oddball billionaire threatening to SLAPP Amnesty UK out of existence, was its revealing all the US funding from extremely conservative organizations.
These people tried to do the same shit in Ireland with gay marriage and abortion access.
I'm curious what the differences have been in terms of reportage and success rates. Are UK politicians more easily manipulated, are Irish politicians just aware of EU law?

@davey_cakes it could be as simple as that UK politicians and owners of news media agree with the US far-right on this issue and want to maintain the illusion that it's an organic movement.

@davey_cakes I like to posit the question, how far back does it go here? Because we were fighting their funding my whole life. It can be argued that it's the same funding that funded the revolution in the first place. It's just being used differently. So maybe we've just had more time to get used to it.

Vote Green in the UK, while one still has a choice. (Or Binface, if you're in Clacton)

@davey_cakes The nature of UK libel law (compared to most jurisdictions is WAY easier to prove libel and WAY harder to disprove it; burden seems basically on the defence) is probably largely to blame, though it also is in a long feedback loop with the UK's general bent towards protecting and coddling the rich and powerful and corporate.
