    @sturmsucht that blog post resonated well with me, thank you. I'm feeling so much better since I left corporate social media behind. The Fediverse is the only place that I find enjoyable.

    @lenzgr Happy it resonates! Connecting here is so wonderful as this place is full of great people. I still sometimes wish my business would be less social media dependent. But I work on that.

    @sturmsucht

    This explains why I often feel like the only one on Earth who *doesn't* think social media is evil.

    The #Fediverse *is* what “social media” means to me. I've heard of Instagram and the rest, but I've never actually used them. I've never struggled with their algorithms. I don't even know what that's like.

    So when politicians talk about banning social media, I'm horrified. Why would anyone want to ban this place? This place isn't hurting anybody. And where else would I socialize?

    Only a few ID-check regulations have a “too small” provision. Most of them do apply to Fediverse servers, and therefore make it illegal to operate one.

    @gabrielmarkley Thank you so much! I'm happy that social media has become and "add-on" again instead of the "purpose" for my photography business. Going to write some more things about the business side in the future.

    @sturmsucht It was interesting to hear from professional photographer. I always used internet for my own needs, tried out too many socials and even if I technically receive in my mailbox about some updates on my friends I long ago abandoned them all.

    Reddit was my for long time social media because of my interest for Hearthstone, then Fire emblem heroes (mobile gacha), then Warframe and then last one was Arknights (better mobile gacha hence still enjoy it) with side of anime and random scroll of top posts. It all ended when Reddit wanted to in simple words "kill all mobile apps" or restrict api access.

    People were angry, there was boycott, then people left and when they didn't find anything they like on Fediverse (be it Mastodon, Lemmy or any other software) they gone back.
    I learned about Mastodon. Joined and explored, understood that it was what my imagination of web was. Is Fediverse a jank? Definitely is. But does it have promises that I would love to see? Yes.

    In the 3+ years I wouldn't say that I found my place in Fedi. I still use YouTube for gameplay videos and Discord to talk about Arknights, but I can say that I enjoy my time on either Mastodon where I mostly share cats, interesting topics, some politics and some good soft or my Misskey where I joined Japanese instance, know not a lick of Japanese but found many fan artists that either dedicated or do occasionally fan arts for Arknights.

    I will also add that I found, shared and clicked on blog links and read them a lot more in span of year than I would on Reddit. I was on Reddit over 12 years so can't without exaggeration say that I clicked more blog links over 3+ years on Fediverse.

    I may only click once, read and never get back to that person blog. But I always enjoy reading persons thoughts and ideas. I am really picky on who I wish to follow and what I enjoy but I still admire and respect people writings.

    So this is where I glad to be part of Fediverse, where I might doomscroll but I will stop and read whole novel length instead of consuming little text, short videos and worse of all - AI generated crap. We human and we err, but getting duped by AI on occasion vs being fed daily, using ai tools to verify ai crap...
    I can go on and on but even at worse, Fedi still feel safe and cozy compared to other Big social medias. Sadly some people experience not same as mine which resulted in some twisted view that going back is better than trying settle here. Worse part is when I think of Fedi, I think of time I played Counter-strike be it 1.6, source or other, Half life and many more. All games that had master server and server lists where each server was it's unique place with normal or weird rules. That's what Fedi for me is, while for others... One master server is all it is. There no someone's pc in garage working to host their match in CS... There one server when it's down , no one can enjoy game.

    @kotking it's a journey, especially if you have been around the internet for longer then 10 years. Love the CS reference. I'm happy to have found my place here.

    @sturmsucht

    Excellent text. I bookmarked it.

    « The connection and reach that Instagram made possible decades ago have basically vanished, and the direction big tech social media took - and is speeding toward - is reflected in the global numbers of user activities. »

    We have on going group conversations for friends and family on Messenger, SMS, Signal or whatever because social medias are no longer the place for keeping in touch with friends and family.

    @fatboy I hope so as well. It does come with the cost of really overthrowing you trained social media pattern so. Not easy, especially if you are in your 20s and didn't experience the OG internet.

    @sturmsucht Can imagine, I bailed on FB years ago, oh and Twitter, but never used Instagram etc. So I missed most of the modern algorithm manipulation, but even for me the Fediverse is very “quiet”.

    @sturmsucht I have killed off 90% of my accounts in social media communities in the last 6 months. Very refreshing and it feels great.

    @sturmsucht #Quote and #comment

    "because once you see the system for what it is - a parasitic loop that rewards noise over nuance, metrics over meaning, reaction over reflection..."

    Paradox with #system is that we need a bit of a better loop where we pioneer our type of "noise" & *convert* it into understanding. some better purpose, in line with *Mastodon and it's member population working together.

    +1 ?

    (*Mastodon in this context means:)

    A social department created by @Gargron or whoever!

    @sturmsucht #Mastodon Quote
    + #Comment after:

    1/ " No ads, no AI, no forced recommendations. "

    (fun but true reply...)

    Add to list: "Near-0 social interaction or development!"

    2/ "boredom is the death of the project."

    YES it is - same for ANY social project dying / stagnating / not progressing the mind socially.

    What you wrote in "Personal Summary" is great but people-powered Mastodon has to put time into it's people in order to deep-dive needs / win better social goals from it.

    Yes/OK?
