#EBTSC Poll: What should we all bake together? (Aug15/16)
- Lemon Poppyseed Cake: tangy, sweet, soft w crunchy bits
- Berry/fruit Clafoutis: (pr. klah-fou-tee) A bit like a torte, flan, or crazy pancake. Great w in-season fruit (nice too w frozen/imported)
- War cake: made with no eggs nor butter. Historically devised when ingredients were scarce (many versions exist).
- BlackForest cake: AKA Schwarzwäld Torte. Luxurious chocolate-cherry layer cake, many variations exist.
Planning the day tomorrow.
The whole town will have a scheduled power outage from 7am to 1pm.
I need my coffee so waking up at 6 will be crucial. 😢

The caterpillars of the Milkweed Tussock Moth have completely devoured my Orange Milkweed.
Now this one is trying their luck with the Coriander. I hope they abhor it as much as I do 😬.
I love the coriander seeds though to spice up my sourdough rye bread.
The good and the bad this morning:
the air is thick with smoke from the West coast, cough cough, sniff sniff🤧.
I briefly saw our Bluebirds, the 4 (yay!) little ones hunting with their father, scouting for food from the hydro line 😊. They have perfected their flying skills, to the point that I couldn't get a photo.
Little buggers 😍.
Working as planned

Cooler today, but still not much activity apart from the honeybees.
I did see one of my favourites however – a buffalo treehopper (Stictocephala bisonia; 🇩🇪 Büffelzikade), & will try to get a head-on shot showing where the name comes from.
That said, it's an invasive species from North America, now widespread in Europe.

Sun stars seen through a canopy of leaves.
A very fresh, perfect Monarch today, feeding on Spotted Joe Pye Weed by the river.
Will he make it to Mexico this fall?
House Wrens are usually heard before seen, and they are so small and fast that even when you see them, it is usually from the corner of your eye. They can be quite stealthy. Today, I mounted one of the cams on a fence post near their nest, and it's been so much fun to see them up close and also seeing what they pull from the garden. I barely ever see them on camera, so this is extra nice. #birds
