I feel I should add here, for actual spider-knowers, that this was a deliberate choice to mash-up spider family characteristics for a fantasy monster illustration

@arestelle They are so cute! One of my favorite animals, and in real life they are very engaging. They track movement and can move their head (other spiders cannot) so it's like having a little puppy dog look up at you.

@jencmars Not at all! Yes, we bought our first jumping spider from a shop that specializes in reptiles, amphibians, and arachnids, for my youngest’s birthday. I tried to persuade him to get one from a breeder, but he didn’t want to wait. The problem with shops is they often sell spiders that were wild-caught, which is suboptimal for the ecosystem and can also mean you’re getting old or unhealthy spiders (pretty sure ours was!), because they’re the easiest to catch. 🫤
Our other three came from a reputable breeder.

@nev Fair, fair. It was for a dnd monster and I think they always call them "wolf spiders" but I wanted a mash up for cuteness purposes so I took some uh, artistic license
