TipaTipa@gamepad.clubSep 22, 2026, 2:22 PM@codinghorror we have some crows, but grackle and jays are our more common corvids.
Bytebro 🇬🇧 🇺🇦 🌈bytebro@mastodonapp.ukSep 22, 2026, 2:32 PMAround here, the corvids are mainly Jackdaws. Clever little buggers, they are.

thief_of_firethief_of_fire@infosec.exchangeSep 22, 2026, 3:33 PM@codinghorror I wish people would stop with this. My neighborhood has a lot of people feeding crows from this trend. Naturally, we have a lot more crows. They are killing other birds and attacking people walking their dogs daily. When are people going to learn to stop making trends out of feeding wild animals?
Sep 22, 2026, 3:34 PM@codinghorror we have several hundred rooks near us who perform amazin arial displays every evening before settling down! Definitely wouldn’t want to upset them!
Sep 22, 2026, 3:37 PM@codinghorror @catsalad I tried feeding the crows and leaving shiny things for them
But they are aware of my cats, especially @floof who is an amazing hunter
I think the offerings were viewed as a trap and me as untrustworthy

Solithasolitha@mastodon.socialSep 22, 2026, 4:13 PM@codinghorror Do you have any tips for feeding them, without also bringing mobs of pigeons?

I keep a bag of unsalted peanuts in the shell, in my car, specifically for this purpose. In more and more locations Crows see me and greet me. I dig it.
Claudiusclaudius@darmstadt.socialSep 22, 2026, 10:10 PM@geos @codinghorror fellow Ologies listeners?
WesDymwesdym@mastodon.socialSep 22, 2026, 11:22 PM@geos I spent way too long trying to figure out what you meant by "the shell in my car". Like:
'What is a 'shell' in a car? Is that some kind of dialectical term? Is it a special container of some kind? Or does it mean 'cabin'? Where ELSE in a car would you keep pean-- OOH! Man, I'm dumb.'
Tanguy ⧓ Herrmanndolanor@hachyderm.ioSep 22, 2026, 5:28 PM@codinghorror a murder of crow killed one of the chicken.of my neighbour.
Even though I like them as animals, I'm still pissed against those ones.

Josh Carlsonjcarlson@mapstodon.spaceSep 22, 2026, 8:12 PMI repeatedly call out to them, offering all sorts of treats. I can't get the crows to trust me enough to eat my food. How do you even *begin* befriending wary crows?
Fractal Kittyfractalkitty@mathstodon.xyzSep 22, 2026, 8:35 PM@codinghorror My backyard is the place that parent bring their young to be babysat through the years we have had:
scrappy, figgy pudding, patch, soggy, pantaloons, fluffy, and many more
They love grubs, meal worms, and fresh water
Sep 22, 2026, 9:08 PMWhat is good corvid food?
