@overholt Thanks, John! (I think that FIFA is a morally bankrupt organization but I grudgingly admit that getting esp. car-centric US cities to do this for a month is pretty cool.)

@debcha Yeah, I am extremely skeptical of the benefits of these huge sporting events to host cities and continue to be grateful that Boston fought off the even greater boondoggle of the 2028 Olympics, but I'll take any public transportation win I can get.

@overholt It didn’t make it into the piece but Robert Kraft (net worth: $11.8B) pitched in some pocket change — $5M of the $35M cost to improve Foxborough Station. Since he owns Gillette and the Pats and the Revs he is probably the single person who will benefit most.

@debcha @overholt He's also one of two NFL owners that own private planes used for their team. Michael Bidwell is the other but he actually has a mini-airline so the Cardinals have a contract with them.

All other NFL teams have agreements with large airlines for private flights as necessary

Personally I learned about a lot of bike infrastructure I didn't know existed, because I was avoiding the T and crowds. Now i'm way more comfortable biking around the city. Unexpected world cup inspired multimodal transportation wins!
