I wonder what makes people think that baking environment variables into a fixed config file on first run is a good idea?

To expand on that a little - I think a lot of people still think of game preservation as putting a bunch of retail game discs on a shelf, but that hasn't been a realistic preservation strategy for several generations now. Realistically speaking, the unofficial (pirate) mirrors of Sony's CDN are the actual way that games are actually being backed up and PS4/PS5-era discs are contributing essentially nothing to that.

I find situations like that very difficult to navigate because these people genuinely want to put their talent to good use, enjoy art, and enjoy solving complicated problems, and are willing to do that at a fraction of industry salaries they could get elsewhere. But it is kind of the wrong problem.

I wonder if this is a special condition in digital art conservation contexts, but I feel if there are really good programmers on a conservation project who absolutely enjoy programming, it can be detrimental to conservation goals. Rewriting software (and planning to do so in the future) is not conservation.

🚀 ECHOLOT participates at the GOBLIN Hackathon.

The GOBLIN Hackathon on #Metadata and Provenance for #KnowledgeGraphs main aim was to improve the quality, context and traceability of knowledge graphs.

As this topic is closely linked to the ECHOLOT project, David Lindemann, from the EHU, travelled to Oviedo in representation of the project.

https://n8n.io is a good tool! If you're managing a bunch of web services and SaaS junk and they all need to exchange data, I'd recommend it. Self-hosting uses super little resources.

Their website is kinda brazen with lightning bolts and AI stuff, but that's easily ignored and the tool itself doesn't look anything like that.

Any opinions / hot takes on the Caddy webserver?

For conservation projects I usually need the granularity of nginx's or apache's configuration options. But Caddy seems pretty nice to get contemporary tools onto the web with 5 lines of configuration.

How about just attaching the document again? Or spelling out your other email address? Or the exact date when you sent it? The subject you used? Anything??
