As I understand it, DIMM memory modules (HTS 8473.30.1140) from Taiwan are currently exempted from US import tariffs, but the carrier might still charge me a brokerage fee.
Two years ago, the price of the memory was such that it would have been covered under the US de minimis exemption, with no special handling or brokerage fee. Trump and Congress, in their wisdom, eliminated the de minimis exemption.

Many of the items are expected to reach me by Tuesday, except the rack mount case, and the RAM. The case should make it by the end of next week, but the RAM is probably getting shipped from Taiwan, and I haven't been given any estimate of delivery date yet. It is "express shipping," but I wasn't told which carrier.

That was related to buying a CPU, motherboard, case, power supply, etc, but the prices on those aren't sky-high. Considered a new graphics card, but for now I'll use an old one.
Now I'll have enough PCIe slots and lanes for all my anticipated needs, and then some.
I was going to use a somewhat older 1TB M.2 NVMe I have on hand, but I decided to get a new, higher-performance 2TB one, and that was hugely more expensive than the last 4TB one I purchased!

People have complained about the lack of influencers on the Fediverse, because they struggle to create the kind of audience they have on commercial, centralised networks. I actually see that as an advantage. I find far more interesting people here, because we have deeper, direct dialogue and discussions. Its more bottom-up, less top-down around here. I like!

HN discusses PeerTube, and the first reply starts with „As a professional YouTuber, the main issue I instantly see with this is the lack of monetization.“

And I immediately think: so maybe that’s the thing we should focus on. Keep that kind of monetisation out to create a place for those that don’t compete for money, but for quality. Yes, I’m that naive, but the Fediverse is an alternative to many things, not a drop-in replacement to for-profit services to me.
