TIL that DuckDuckGo will allow you to block particular sites from search results — select the three dots to the right of a given result.
Goodbye from my search results to Etsy, Pinterest, and Amazon!
Edit:
1. there’s a limit of five permanent blocks.
2. I’m told other search engines have this feature, so check your favorites.
3. I’m muting notifications for this post. (I’m not surprised that people want to know this!)
@gannet
Woah, that's a game changer!
@gannet can you make those exclusions permanent?
@artcollisions yes! (Or so it claims)
@artcollisions @gannet yes but theres a limit to how many you can block which is very frustrating!
@grepfruit @artcollisions oof. Still, it’s a start!

For good reasons.
100 million users each blocking 100 websites is 10 billion database rows. A billion users each blocking a thousand websites is a trillion rows.
@gannet @StaceyCornelius yes. I blocked imdb.
This will be great for product searches that generated hundreds of Amazon results I am not interested in. Do you know if that is permanent or just for that one set of results ?
@the5thColumnist there’s an option for each
thanks
@gannet @jalefkowit I noticed this too, and love it!
Results from grokipedia? Nope. Turned that garbage off.
Vivaldi too - I LOVE that!
Nov 5, 2026, 3:47 AMI did that for "Grokipedia," ewwww.
@gannet oooh that's a handy tip, thank you!
@gannet Cool! TIL Kagi can do that too.
@gannet Wow, this is really powerful. Pinterest has been the bane of my image searches. Thanks for sharing!
@blind_mapmaker @gannet I've found that when I block one Pinterest instance, all the others (with country extensions) stay unblocked! So 5 items is really not enough.
@irina
Good point. It looks to be heavily dependent on what you're searching for, though. The stuff I am mostly interested in, is sort of niche and works fine. If you put in something like "fantasy female paladin" or such, then yes, pinterest is still going strong. Still, the herd is thinned out considerably with this trick.
Nov 5, 2026, 7:07 AM@gannet but only up to five sites alas
@cadadr disappointing, but still a help
@gannet it's the best! & surprise surprise I've eliminated the same sites. Their gaming of search is so loathsome.
@gannet And goodbye LinuxVox (an AI slop site giving dodgy advice to Linux users).
@gannet Oh wait! You can only block 5 sites!?
@RachelThornSub yeah. Still, it’s a help!
Sweet. I use the Brave search engine, and I need to see if it can do similar. If not, it'll be bye-bye Brave Search. I'll find out when I get home.
