Oct 28, 2026, 7:56 AMNew fun insult just dropped: “I see you are committed to your current level of understanding.”

Oct 28, 2026, 8:51 AM@renegadejade Adding that to my repertoire. Perfect insult to use as a teacher

Or as an IT support tech.(Sometimes I feel like just a more chaotic species of teacher...)

@ozzelot @renegadejade There are subtle differences. Mostly that teachers tend to understand the importance and use of things like zone of proximal development and Bloom's/Marzano's taxonomies and such 😂

@ozzelot @renegadejade And, TBF, I have yet to meet the IT support tech that'll not treat me like I'm a child that shouldn't be allowed to play with their toys

@erikcats @renegadejade Yeah, we sort of have to start with low expectations. If someone raises those, good for them!
- Oct 28, 2026, 10:45 AM
@ozzelot @renegadejade another difference.

Hah.
Having been both a high school teacher (briefly) AND an IT specialist (most of my salaried life) ... none of this is incorrect! Two different skill sets, but they can be very complementary if you have the time and support to apply both. 😁

Oct 28, 2026, 11:22 AM@renegadejade reminds me of what former German minister of economic affairs Robert Habeck recently had to say about the current chancellor Friedrich Merz: "He operates within his abilities." ("Er agiert im Rahmen seiner Möglichkeiten.")
Oct 28, 2026, 11:41 AMUnder-understanding is sitting comfortably.
Karen E. Lund 💙💛Karen5Lund@mastodon.socialOct 28, 2026, 12:19 PM@renegadejade Love it!
By the time my brother was in high school he'd developed a sharp wit. He could insult people to their face with lines like this, and they didn't know they were being insulted. Don't misunderstand: he's a nice guy and only used the technique on people who thoroughly deserved it. But it was gratifying to watch.
Oct 28, 2026, 12:59 PM@renegadejade “you must see things as ideal often”
Oct 28, 2026, 1:59 PM@renegadejade perhaps this could spawn a booklet/hashtag of these witticisms ?
Reginaldraganwald@social.bau-ha.usOct 28, 2026, 2:24 PM@renegadejade Dress it up:
“You have an impressive commitment to your understanding of the subject.”

I have a t-shirt that says, I can explain it for you, but I can't understand it for you.
Oct 28, 2026, 6:29 PM@renegadejade fantastic
daria-andreadaridrea@graphics.socialOct 28, 2026, 6:44 PM@renegadejade also: "I see you've decided your gut feeling is a peer-reviewed source. Bold."
Taran Rampersadknowprose@mastodon.socialOct 28, 2026, 7:44 PM@renegadejade weird. I use variations of this frequently in person.
And it is often taken in stride. 🙃
Zack Whittakerzackwhittaker@mastodon.socialOct 28, 2026, 7:48 PM@renegadejade this is excellent!
Steve LindsaySteve_Lindsay@fediscience.orgOct 28, 2026, 10:17 PM@renegadejade Arguably takes an act of will NOT to be committed to one's current level of understanding.
Oct 29, 2026, 1:30 AM@renegadejade this is so crisp.

Reminds me of former German Minister for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection Robert Habeck on the current Chancellor: "It's obvious, that Friedrich Merz operates within the limits of his capabilities.
