    When I left Strava it was because it was US-based. But what I notice now is it was also very focused on "Winning" - KOMs, PRs for segments and distances. Now with Komoot/Squadrats, I've changed my bike computer to a different screen. I no longer rest on the speedometer screen but my exploration view.

    I'd be lying if I said I no longer feel compelled to ride at a certain speed but riding in exploration mode like this makes it almost impossible to get a "good" average pace - what with all the meandering, turning back, scanning for ways to get somewhere. And that's the point.

    #BikeTooter #cycling

    A Garmin bike computer screen. The bottom half shows a street map, the top half shows a grid of green and red squares. Green are squares I've just visited for the first time, red are ones I have yet to see. A great way to explore the city.

    @toddtyrtle Streaks, KoM (not that i had any), Kudos, Segments, Groups.... Just got too much to be honest. I do miss seeing some peoples rides but hopefully they'll upload them here to see.
    Loving having my own system (Endurain) to collect my rides.

    @nick Right? And I internalize that stuff. "Wait, I thought I was really fast up that hill but I didn't even make my top 10? What's wrong with me?"

    Self-hosting is a great idea - but like you said, I do miss seeing other's rides. A few folks I know are over on Komoot. I do like that site as it seems a bit more in line with what I'm on about. No KOMs, streaks, etc. Doesn't want to know my gear or my weight. It *does* however, suggest cool places I might want to ride to on the weekend.

    @toddtyrtle I didn’t know that there was a squadrats app for garmin, but of course there is one. Inställning it as we speak. Thanks for the tip.

    @Eorlingur There seem to be a few. This one is Tiloscope DF z17 which focuses on Squadritinhos which is a much easier goal for my weekday rides - going for a Squadrat I don't yet have is a longer ride.

    @toddtyrtle Yeah, sqadrats are for weekend rides!

    I downloaded what seems to be the official Squadrats app and that is squadratinhos only it seems. I will start there and see how it works.

    @toddtyrtle I check my time at the top of the "hill" (in RideWithGPS), just to keep an eye on my health, but I've never used Strava nor had the inclination to.

    @keraba Joined back in 2014 but just because it was the thing to do more than anything. Data for me is a mixed bag. "Keeping an eye on my health" quickly turns to "wait, is that a concern?" (No it's not, you forgot you gave blood, ate poorly, hadn't biked in a few weeks, etc...)

    I had a Garmin watch for a while and its fitness tracking was maddening. Its "Stress score" and "sleep score" were the bane of my existence. (Though it was interesting to watch that "stress score" go up to 100% as my first COVID infection hit).

    @toddtyrtle

    Ya, I only use the time to ask, "I wonder if skipping riding this week will affect my time.", long-term trending and comparing bikes of course.

    I have a Pixel Watch and I've become fairly convinced that the preponderance of heart "issues" today is because we now have monitoring #thanksapple, and not because they develop into real problems.

    @keraba Yeah - for now I'm using the apple watch which seems to be much more supportive and doesn't think my eight hours of sleep were terrible because of "stress". So far it's been good but I'm intrigued about PineTime - fully self-hosted and privacy focused fitness tracker. A couple of years ago I bought an iPhone and my son gave me his Apple Watch (he switched to an old school Casio digital). As long as Apple isn't too egregious about what it does and the watch/phone work I will use it but when replacement time comes I'm likely to change the whole thing. pine64.org/devices/pinetime/
