    This Is For Everyone is now available in paperback.

    You might recognise the face on the cover...a younger me at MIT in 1998 when 150 million people used the web. Today it's roughly 6 billion.

    Read about how the web came to be and where I think it's going ➡️ thisisforeveryone.timbl.com/

    The paperback cover of 'This Is For Everyone' by Tim Berners-Lee with a photo of Tim in front of a blackboard at MIT.

    @timbl

    you fixed free speech. everybody can "speak" to everyone else.

    decentralized social media fixes the attention problem, by making it democratically determined via a trusted network of human boosts.

    the last piece is money. a protocol for fiat transfer such that the creators of what we choose to experience can be automatically and directly supported in their work.

    I was one of those 150 Million. I’d been using earlier forms of the internet like alt. news groups since maybe 1993. Daniel Plummer, cognitive scientist, had been telling our social circle about http

    @timbl considering the e-book vendors I doubt that the title of the book meets the e-book distribution.

    All those four vendors in your page are antithesis to open web. Even Kobo sells it with DRM lock which basically prevents me reading it with my reMarkable e-ink device.

    How is the e-book for everyone?

    @tarmot @timbl for 99p on Kobo right now I’m probably OK with the DRM.. lol no of course if I get that it’s going straight through Calibre to strip the DRM.

    Mr Berners-Lee, given this book is already on well known ebook piracy sites the DRM is pointless. Please support DRM-free ebook vendors also and offering DRM-free wherever that’s supported. Believe Kobo does permit DRM-Free titles.

    @timbl general question - is there a way to purchase a non-drm ebook these days? Specifically this book?

    @leffie Generally it depends on the publisher. Some of them sell DRM-free books directly, and some shops like Kobo, Bookshop or ebooks.com will sell you a DRM-free book if the publisher requests it.

    As for specifically this one, I don't know.

    @timbl can you still rename the book it to "this is gonna be fun & cool for a while until it will turn into a terrible dumpster fire"?
