Dec 31, 2023, 10:58 PMLong ago, I was an angry young man who railed against all the injustices of the world, but time has passed, I have matured and learned so much more about things, and now I am an angrier old man.

Dec 31, 2023, 11:08 PM@robpike I feel the same way. Maybe this is the way everyone feels as they age, but I do feel like things have gotten significantly worse since I was a young person.

Chris Ljayalane@mastodon.onlineJan 1, 2024, 6:45 PM@MHowell @admin @robpike we have gay marriage, supercomputers every where, Wikipedia and arxiv and mathoverflow and less child sexual abuse and less racist violence (thanks cell phones) and the Catholic Church is trying to apologize for that and less crime and while the labor/capital balance needs adjusting and the carbon burn needs to stop, and racists need to again be shamed, we are mostly done with the brutal violence of the 1950s racists, country invasions, and coups. Not that I am not mad.

100% The US is turning into a horrible cesspool of fascism with a direct line to a dictatorship. While things weren't great in 2023, they are exponentially worse now.
Woke 2 Enjoyerswelljoe@mas.toDec 31, 2023, 11:13 PM@robpike People when I was young: "You'll become more conservative when you're older."
Me, older:
Ted Lemonabhayakara@mastodon.nlJan 1, 2024, 3:08 AM@swelljoe depends what you mean by conservative, maybe?

@PenguinJunk @robpike I think it's simply that rich people live longer, and rich people like low taxes, even at the expense of public well-being. So, polls of old people lean conservative because working class folks are less likely to make it to "old".

LanguageMan1LanguageMan1@vivaldi.netMar 24, 2024, 8:46 AM@robpike True. Just like the more we learn the more some of us realize how stupid people really are. And technically, we're all stupid to a degree. People think that Bill Gates, Elon Musk, Warren Buffet and many others are the smartest, but not one of them or myself or any of us knows it all.
pedropedro@functional.cafeMay 5, 2024, 11:54 PM@robpike thanks for giving me some view of my future self. I got a little less angrier. Now I’m angry because I need my angriness back again.

Proto Himbo Europeanguyjantic@infosec.exchangeMay 12, 2026, 10:36 PM@robpike As a young man I parroted my parents' political views if I was forced to comment on politics. I said I wasn't political. Since about age 25 it's been a slide farther and farther left, and now I, too, and quite an angry old man.
