Trump is dismantling the science system that made America a superpower. NIH has delayed or canceled over 2,000 grants on Alzheimer’s, cancer and more, NSF is withholding more than $1 billion, Energy lost over 1,000 scientists, and Pentagon labs lost 14% of their staff, which the Pentagon itself says could have grave consequences for defense. China is catching up while foreign Ph.D. applications drop 21%. We built this over 80 years, and it’s being gutted in under two.

Benjamin Moser puts into words what so many are afraid to say. But these criticisms are hardly new:

Einstein warned in 1938 that Jewish statehood risked “the development of a narrow nationalism within our ranks,” preferring agreement with Arabs to a separate Jewish state. Arendt opposed partition and advocated a binational alternative. Buber likewise opposed the 1947 partition recommendation, supporting a shared political framework that protected both peoples’ rights. Magnes warned in 1948 that partition can only be carried out through warfare over a period of many years.

Israel’s own actions have made those warnings harder to dismiss. They were correct. #Zionism deserves the condemnation and political isolation once directed at #apartheid in South Africa.

Interview: Israel is actively destroying the evidence of its genocide in Gaza.

In a scale of "destruction not seen anywhere else", Israel intends to "erase all traces of Palestinian life... a continuation of its crimes".

“Well, you see, AI models are inherently unpredictable…”

And •who• made it unpredictable, OpenAI? Who hooked a random number generator up to that big ol’ pile of matrices? •You• did.

“But this was an old model that’s no longer available…”

And who released that old model? That model that was so bad it committed medical malpractice? •You• did.

“LLMs may reproduce content from a variety of sources, not all of them reliable…”

Oh, and who decided to stuff into that model’s training data every corner of the Internet it was possible to slurp up, with neither permission nor curation? Including forums where people give each other dangerous advice on self-dosing and lying to their doctors about it? •You• did.

a $2000 flagship phone's key-selling-point screen failing within 2 days of purchase sums up 2026 pretty well

the proton stuff reminded me just how pathetic the trend of grown-ass men earnestly using the word "loser" is. they think it makes them seem like cool tough pragmatic hardasses, but it bespeaks a worldview so risibly childish that they should be ashamed to appear in public after having exposed something that embarrassing about themselves. what a humiliating class of people these are

@theodoraward Not only using the word loser, but as a senior in the company, openly calling one of the more junior staff a loser in front of everyone. Bullying bullshit behaviour right there too.

Struggling with this one. Certainly we have a huge grassroots racism problem, and these voters are ultimately to blame when they elect such horrible people. But, don't the leaders that endorse and fund such candidates also bear responsibility? Steven's does not become a Senate candidate making racist appeals without Schumer, the DCCC, and AIPAC. Certainly both the voters and the leaders who make appeals to their worst instincts deserves to be held responsible.

BREAKING: In the hours since Haley Stevens went MAGA, El-Sayed has raised $1.2 million dollars

AI ads are everywhere now, but i've noticed an especially high uptick in AI art usage in the local Chinese business community which makes some sense given that a lot of the businesses are indie and also there's been a lot more of an embrace of AI in the Chinese immigrant community I've noticed and less pushback

Every time someone makes the case for "moderates" or "centrists," please make sure to tell them the Democratic leadership and its consultant-class symbiotes went all-in for Haley Stevens, the pro-mass-murder pro-neo-nazi Democrat, and ask them if they think those smart and principled people were correct in doing so.

Lynn Margulis proposed a theory of symbiogenesis--life evolves through organisms merging together to become inseparable--cooperation not just competition drives great leaps. In 1967, her theory was written off as not compelling. It is common knowledge today. https://www.yahoo.com/news/science/articles/her-groundbreaking-theory-origin-life-224144313.html

Every single Pennant-Waving Democrat who tried to sell the rank & file on this asshole, congratulations, you get to sit the fuck down and keep your dumbshit opinions to yourself forever.

In her decision to dismiss the Trump administration's complaint against Alaska, not only did Judge Gleason find that the administration has no standing, but also found that the court has no authority to tell Alaska what to certify.

Therefore, she concludes that any "further amendment [of the complaint] would be futile". Case closed.

They hate us but we have to vote for them? I don’t think so. And. Israelis aren’t Jews, they are Zionists.

I suspect there's a good chance that Haley Stevens' grudge-driven endorsement of Rogers will actually win El-Sayed more votes. Many of Stevens' supporters who might have been thinking of staying home will now be roused to vote by her betrayal.

Binance hasn’t REcovered $6B+, it’s COVERING it (reimbursing customers from company funds). Some was frozen, but Binance is not likely to recover even half.

Bad headlines like this are a big part of why I started covering crypto. Generalist reporters on deadline far too often end up repeating company spin.
