@gailen I'm curious, how many times does this same effect need to be seen in cities everywhere before retailers and business owners are finally going to start promoting projects that remove cars, rather than fighting them?

@notjustbikes @gailen An infinity of time. It’ll happen everywhere, everytime, especially if the store owners live in a remote suburban area giving them an excuse to be enslaved to their car. :p

@notjustbikes Well, Germany – the country that co-invented the “Fußgängerzone” (pedestrianised) – is still fighting the same fight every time, soooo…

A few years ago a business owner fought a new one in Berlin in front of a court – and won. Fun fact: she runs a wine shop. Her business is selling drugs that make people drunk and unable to drive a car. You really couldn’t make that shit up if you tried… 🤪

This is one of those things that boggles my mind living in the US. So many people like to go out and have a drink but almost all of us don't have walkable options.
I have decided to live in an urban area, so I can easily walk to a bar or restaurant and have a few drinks and safely stumble home. I will not have the guilt of wiping out a minivan with children inside of it on my mind.
