Watched this video and it's amazing how easy certain things are to do in Resolve. Definitely multicam/narrative edits seem easier. Also seems like if you come from broadcast you might feel more at home, too.

But it's also very jagged in look and feel, where Apple always makes things feel fluid. DVR feels more engineer-y, computer-y. Like Windows, or Premiere, or Pro Tools.

Still trying to get a sense of how much I'll stumble over before I commit to working in it...

It's based on the control mechanism we used for analog tape back in the 1980s/90s. It absolutely is more manual feeling. The clack of the IN and OUT points remind me very much of the Sony BVE-600 controller. [nostalgia]

It's also a great way to get to the Studio version of Resolve, since it comes with a license.

@troy_frizzell Yeah, that sounds about right. It's a paradigm from another age, but one that was fully optimised. I am very much a believer in physical controls, coming from the world of guitar, where digital is slowly becoming state of the art. And the reason I was watching this video is because that controller is on sale currently!
