I don't normally post about celebrity deaths, but Sir Patrick Stewart's death is such a tremendous loss. Like Peter Cullen, he portrayed leadership based on kindness, compassion, and respect for others - not exactly the norm before that - both professionally and in his personal life. He showed that strength comes from treating those around you with dignity, not from belittling them - and that power comes with responsibility to do the right thing, rather than being an entitlement to abuse others.

Real strength is celebrating uniqueness in others rather than mocking it, being humble enough to be gentle and silly, lifting up people in your life rather than forcing them down, admitting when you're wrong. Those are lessons I learned from Stewart, ones that are more important than ever today.

@AbandonedAmerica one of my heroes and I don't have many. Loved him all the way through Star Trek as a kid and as Professor X as an adult. Also enjoyed other places I spotted him such as Excalibur. Wish I'd seen him on the stage. I have the deepest respect for his experiences of domestic abuse and his stand against it. I'm not really one for respecting titles generally, but this is one occasion where I do: RIP Sir Patrick Stewart.
