the biggest challenge used to be that rebooting for updates was annoying. but now they're annoying AND also the harbingers of fucking up their shit while harassing them with things they don't want.

@gsuberland I think the only time I refuse to update is if Samsung announces there is a problem with the latest Android update, I skip it until they re-roll it out. Or if Garuda Linux announces there is a problem with an update for my Linux distro update. I will skip it until that is fixed as well.

Windows updates are the only ones that I would manually apply (as you can download those from their website after inspecting them). It was such a pain in my ass, thankfully I don't use Windows anymore. As Microsoft forgot that user's PCs are their computers, thinking that every computer that uses Windows belongs to Microsoft and should be updated/changed whenever the company wants it to be.

@WanderingInDigitalWorlds @gsuberland I don't update, ever. If there is a vuln that actually matters, I will add modprobe.d rules to block modules, write custom kernel modules to patch out syscall table entries, write LD_PRELOAD hacks, hex edit binaries, add layers of sandboxing, etc. etc. etc.

I will not install their fucking update.

@dalias Way above my skillset at the moment, but that is the joy of using open source software. You can literally control everything if it is your will and desire! Perhaps when I get better at manipulating the language machines understand...It may happen. @gsuberland

@fullywoolly The understanding of the words is always easier than the practicing of what every word means. Unless you have the time to devote and an environment you can absolutely wreck in the pursuit of knowledge...It is not an easy thing to learn.

Python is taking up my own learning time so...Yeah, I won't be learning the computer arcane arts for a while yet. Perhaps when it is time for C coding. @dalias @gsuberland
