I have an idea that's either crazy or good but I'm going to poke at it a bit before I decide.

I'm envisioning a #Fediverse #DIY service - something like Ravelry or Instructables.

Project types and outlines should be extensible so you're not filling out an electronics-focused BoM for a knitting project and instances can choose to focus on a particular type.

I'm considering including project management hooks to help a project that's in-progress but still on the fence.

No PoC yet but...

Taxpayers in the US have paid something like 60% of federal taxes to the US military and associated contractors for the last several decades. We have the largest military budget on Earth.

Afghanistan is a mess. Iraq is wobbly. Iran is straight up winning. Ukraine has flipped the script and now they're teaching us how to fight.

WTF was all that money for? Why the hell aren't we shifting any of that, very clearly wasted, investment?

Adding an LLM to a product like a browser is a strange decision. The thought process that leads to "Our product could be improved if we added the ability to be confidently wrong about a wide variety of topics" is hard to understand.

Not that I planned to use Times New Roman in any website, but gosh, now I *can’t*, because—like red caps, or that white supremacy tattoo on Drunky McMurderBoat’s chest—Trump has turned the humble font we all grew up with into a fascist symbol.

(They nixed Calibri because it’s easier for some visually disabled people to read, and an inclusive choice that works for everyone is apparently too woke for these heartless fascist f____s.)

If you ever want to see a neurotypical person lose their shit at work just imply however lightly that their ego-driven, authoritarian and imprecise communication style is the problem.

So of course it came back with "Certainly! Let's explore whether a patient with chronic hypertension and diabetes should be offered a standard health plan or a specialized chronic care plan though a multi-faceted evaluation process."

Silly me thinking it might refuse to answer rather than just make up its own wild shit.

I'm just wildly pleased with the switch to #NixOS.

My Pi was super dead after the latest storm related power issues, even the external drive doesn't power up properly anymore.

So I hacked together a deploy script and repurposed the mini PC I wasn't actually using. A couple days later and now I've got #HomeAssistant back up in a container, centralized my admin and backed it up to version control.

"Maybe someday" automation items were accessible immediately. I love it.

The reason it's considered (by many) acceptable to churn/sling/vibe code using AI is largely due to how we frame development in respect to design. We consider design thinking as both innately human and a non-technical code-free occupation. We think of developers as machines who only encode design.

If developers get replaced by AI, it's only because we dehumanised them already. And the development itself *will* get worse. Because the best developers actually think deeply about their work.

The pieces all clicked. I need a new job somewhere else.

The liability for HIPAA violations is potentially $250k and 5 years jail and I'm expected to use GitHub CoPilot on legacy codebases containing God-only-knows-what in an environment where nobody has secure test platforms with dummied test data. It's not even about what *I* directly put into it.

I'm not accepting that liability. I get my ducks in a row and GTFO.

Demo yesterday explicitly told us to turn off GitHub CoPilot any time we're working with PHI, PII or any other kind of officially sensitive info.

My work is *entirely* data driven.
There is no robust test platform, no dummied up claim data, nothing to support us in avoiding real data for testing and development.

If I can't use it for sensitive work and all my work is sensitive, WTF am I supposed to do about being required to use it?

In our town hall meeting this morning, an executive told us that they plan to give all software engineer jobs to Al.

When asked what he might have to say of any comfort to us, he said there are still lots of projects to be done in the meantime.

He ended the call by telling us he's uncomfortable with AI coding, knows that we're all uncomfortable with it, and that's exactly where he wants us to be.

Year over year my raises (1%) are routinely less than the rate of inflation. The company tacks on an adjustment every so often when it remembers that we could walk out and get better pay immediately elsewhere but doesn't realize the baseline problem. If they were just keeping up with regular raises that made sense, they wouldn't need the periodic drastic adjustments.

It's not easy to "just" switch jobs, especially now, but the golden handcuffs are really chafing.

I really wish the people flocking to BlueSky understood that it's run with the same corporate mindset as Twitter and it's just earlier in the enshittification arc.

It's free and user friendly now.
Once it hits critical mass it will focus on being ad/commerce friendly.
