if someone offered me a burger or a cnc machine it would currently be a hard choice

sure mate, your 3x4mm IC can dissipate 25W.

maybe if you bathe it in liquid nitrogen.

I don't think I can count how many max power dissipation specs I have seen in datasheets that are straight up physically impossible.

been writing an RV32 emulator in C++ and JS for a project and I just realised I could probably have saved myself a ton of time by using the Sail spec for RV32 to generate the C++ side, then transpile to JS (or use wasm).

each board gets soldered by hand to clear-insulation wire, then clear heatshrink over it. long job.

revisiting this design again and realising it's one of the more ridiculous things I've ever worked on.

xmas fairy lights, but each "bulb" has 6 addressable channels, and each channel is a chain of three white CRI90+ LEDs - four chains of 3000K, two of 3500K. the individual boards are 9x14mm, 4L 1oz/1oz copper, ViP, ENIG.

the back side of each board has a pair of WS2811N ICs (I'd prefer the newer 16-bit ones but they don't make them in DFN8) to drive the LEDs.

d'you think when cryptocurrency people get married they have the reverend say "speak now or forever hodl your peace"

I also don't like buying this stuff off AliExpress cos it's almost never as good quality IRL as the listing shows, and it's hard to justify shipping some spooky doodads all the way from China.

I wish there was a UK retailer of halloween stuff for adults that stocked actually creepy stuff. for the past few years now all our usual places have gone full cutesy / kitsch. and I refuse to give money to bullshit wellness peddlers so that rules out basically all occult shops.

I'm not doing a bit here. this is exactly how it works.

if you open the menu next to a suggested shorts panel on youtube and click the "show fewer shorts" button, it still shows you the exact same number of shorts suggestions but just removes the "show fewer shorts" menu item for a while.

I keep having a repeating dream that we're wandering around my local neighborhood and stumble upon a series of large radio telescope dishes that were decommissioned years ago and are now being refurbished by a bunch of local nerds. last night was the third time I had it.

damnit I really want to pull the trigger on a desktop CNC, but it is a LOT of money.

💭 if I bought a desktop CNC machine I could mill my own custom heatsinks for LEDs, and theoretically also my own custom torch bodies...
