As someone who has reported regularly on filings on this case, Trump v. BBC (25-cv-25894) District Court, S.D. Florida, I would like to call to your attention that this is not a $5 billion lawsuit in that the operative complaint has two "different" claims for damages, each with a demand for "damages in an amount not less than $5,000,000,000, as well as interest, costs, punitive damages, and such other relief as this Court may deem just and proper." (Doc 1, pp. 31, 32). Thus this lawsuit should properly be described as a clownish demand for $10 billion.
Claim 1 is under Florida's definition of "defamation per se", a construct of case law and precedent descending from English 18th century common law defamation, while Claim 2 is under a statute called the "Florida Deceptive and Unfair Trade Practices Act" which at first glance only makes sense if Trump himself were in the mood to purchase a Documentary and the BBC tricked him into purchasing this one, which no Florida resident did as the BBC didn't market it to America and Trump had no evidence to say otherwise (2026/06/25 Doc 90).
