There's nothing quite like the spectacle of watching baby egrets having their lunches up in the treetops. They are such gawky, gulpy little chickens! #EgretsIveHadAFew

Photo of an adult great egret--a leggy, lanky, slender white bird with an elongated neck and a long, pointy, fencing epée of a bill--standing in right-facing profile and patiently looming over eir three gawky, scruffy, wildly Muppet-like babies to feed them their lunches. Currently, the baby in front, eyes wide and almost stunned by the impending satiation (temporary) of eir hunger, has eir sparsely feathered head raised on eir limber neck, eir bill opened wide to receive the sword of eir parent's bill (which is probably depositing some fresh fish); if you didn't know what you were looking at, you might think the parent was driving a blade through eir baby's face. The other two chaos Muppet babies are crouching, snuggled close, ready to dart upwards for their turns at the delivery bird. The large nest of sticks is in the upper reaches of a Ponderosa pine under a stormy sky, so the scene is wild and a little ghostly.
