Today’s hike revealed my first ever Ghost Plant!! I’ve always wanted to see one myself 🤍

I asked a trusted Cherokee source and the name of this plants is ᏩᎶᏏ ᏅᏬᏘ (walosi nvwot) which means wart medicine.

Very active at the Wrenhouse today. Was able to confirm at *least* 3 hatchlings, and I'm pretty sure there's a fourth, but it's *very* hard to see that many at once through the entrance, even watching from indoors with a scope.

sometimes i'll be watching a video about view-master reels and see a book from 1979 about creating multimedia slide shows and immediately pause the video to buy a copy of the book on ebay

And in a similar vein, my sister recently became a member of the Xerces Society, a nonprofit focusing on invertebrate conservation. She got sent this lovely little magazine, and I'm reading an essay in it on nudibranches.

It's nice having family members with similar ecological interests, because when I'm out in my yard and go "ooh I think that's a firefly" I can snap a few photos then consult a guide book belonging to my mother

At the farmers market enjoying the colors again. It was disappointing, though, to hear people getting snippy with some of the farmers for selling Colorado peaches “too early.” Given the wild weather this spring, it’s amazing that there is a peach crop at all this year. Sorry it’s “too early” for your convenience (and I’ll gladly accept any peaches you don’t want).
