@jwildeboer why the hell are people even wearing this trash? What benefit to their lives does it have?

Edit: other than being a pervert.

@gunchleoc @jwildeboer if they were not built by a company that harvests as much personal data as they can I would probably agree. But as it’s meta I would have to disagree hard.

@peach @jwildeboer I totally agree that the data harvesting is bad and I would personally never go near any of this if I can avoid it.

Visually disabled people don't have the luxury to choose that we do. There's a reason most of them use Apple devices.

The only choice they have is to have to live with the ick or to do without being able to do stuff themselves.

tl;dr there are other reasons to wear these things than being a pervert 😉

@gunchleoc @jwildeboer true. But we need open source alternatives, which is probably a pipe dream. We can agree we live in a crap world of techno-bullshit where privacy is the currency of modern tech things.

@peach Assistive technologies like Smart glasses that for example can read signs and say the content out loud (but also a lot more) are nothing new. And they are made by more manufacturers than just Meta. For far longer. It's not a new market that waited for Meta to show up. It is a market that is now being destroyed by their "Move fast and break everything" attitude :( @gunchleoc
