Getting on an airplane at PDX today!

The general security wait was 40 minutes, the PreCheck wait was 10 minutes, and the Touchless ID PreCheck line was completely empty and I got all the way through security without breaking stride.

Folks, you should learn more and sign up with your airline: https://www.tsa.gov/touchless-id

Hey Mac users, I see that the Ice menu bar manager app doesn’t work on macOS 27 - what have people been using after upgrading?

I've been experimenting with ways to visualize powerplay structure and relations between star systems from the game Elite: Dangerous.

Besides the technical side of it, I like how organic looking the structures ares, especially with the growth that system colonization enabled.

Poll, only for people who have pre-ordered a Duo. When is your delivery/pickup date?

Prague, Czechslovakia, 1960s.

I just watched the first episode of Colombo with my husband and one of Colombo's gotchas, one of his "no sane innocent man would ever do this"s, is "Why, when you were at your vacation home four hours out of the city and got a call that there was an emergency at home, why did you drive back and not rush to the airport and get on the next flight? There's one every half hour, everyone know that"

The idea of rocking up to an airport spontaneously and buying a ticket to get on a plane leaving in fifteen minutes, as if it were a local bus, and that the whole process from door to door would be meaningfully faster than four hours, is completely culturally illegible to those of us living in the glorious future

Finally!

been in a creative block for awhile (being able to execute on a piece =/= being able to put soul into the piece)

and came across a post that more or less said: painters paint, so you need to paint to solve the problem, not intellectualize about the problem

US threatens Europe over Starlink restrictions

Mafia-like tactics to get spectrum allocated exclusively to US companies. Given how it’s being weaponized by this administration against Ukraine, it’s the best example of why we shouldn’t let that happen.

Can’t believe that the MAGA president would let European companies get 100% of US spectrum

Anyone have any idea how to troubleshoot an old Gameport joystick? It was tested working on WinXP, but when I took it home Win95 said it wasn't connected properly. Do I need to get a second joystick/soundcard, or are there other things I can do to test? Eg. how can I check the gameport device configuration?
