    @MostlyHarmless This is also why some of the most powerful praxis is looking out for each other, and building alternative access to food, shelter, and (to the degree possible) medical care.

    Some people will still have needs beyond what their local anarchist community can provide, but the more people that have more freedom to de-participate in the economy, the more revolutionary power we can bring to the fight when stuff like Cop City happens.

    @MostlyHarmless This holds true until a tipping point is reached where a large enough percentage feel they have nothing left to lose. The oligarchs are going to have a really hard time finding equilibrium at that level.

    I'm still idealistic (naive?) enough to think we can shift back in a positive direction without total societal collapse with something like the New Deal. But I don't consider it a certainty.

    @MostlyHarmless of course is by design. One that kills a pharmaceutical CEO gets the highest punishment and other rich boy who moves to other state to massacre some black protestors not only gets pardon, but also a government job.

    @MostlyHarmless This is only a part of it, though.
    The process works excellent in the contemporary times. If you think of a similar condition a century ago, or more, it would have lead to revolts, revolutions.

    What makes it work now are a few factors.
    First are the basic commodities, that let people live a miserable life, but that breaks from a past where the minimal level meant a shorter and worse life.
    Then there are the anaesthetics.

    Handling an always on device, that feeds people with the constant feeling of "finding" something, doomscrolling. Gives also that feeling of being part of something against the system, in the moment you can express an opinion (like this one).
    However the reins that control the society are still in those same hands. The revolutions in any subvertive post are just a discharge valve, allowed to be here. Because if it happened in the outside, well, it would risk to be effective.

    Please stop confusing "happy coincidence" with design or intent. The 1% can't agree on anything, and certainly aren't smart enough to make a plan.

    They just hoard money, enable legislation to help them with their mental illness, and here's where we are.

    There is no hidden clockmaker, it's just random chance.

    @Benhm3 @MostlyHarmless they also can pay people to keep the poor down for them. The 1% don't have to come up with any plans themselves, that doesn't mean none are made on their behalf. It's also probably useful to remember that no group is a monolith: the 1% are universally evil and greedy, but they probably aren't universally completely unable to concoct schemes

    @MostlyHarmless I agree, it's by design. When elections come up, I invariably ask people if they're voting. "No, I can't because I have to work." I understand that and we do have elections on a work day to promote not voting. I just don't understand whyTF they don't vote after work (unless it doesn't end).

    Of course it is.

    Except for a small fraction of capitalists, most of us are wage labor slaves. We have to earn our upkeep by selling our labor force and, more importantly, our lifetime. And the people earning enough to afford some more free time are being deliberately sidetracked by the system through entertainment or meaningless dependencies, so they don't get any silly ideas.
    Neoliberal capitalism is designed to benefit only a very small number of super-rich capitalists, while the rest are supposed to serve them.
