I was thinking the same thing. Fines and potential prison time too, but maybe a couple of hours *after* they've been chased around the office by a dozen hungry wolf packs.
@dyckron The Finnish government’s plan should be to confiscate all of the destruction equipment and fine the company’s owners for the cost of reforestation. They also ought to fine the company that took the topsoil for 50x for the money they’ve paid for the topsoil.

@dyckron No one can convince me that 1,300 hectares of forest can be razed to the ground overnight and that everyone was suddenly taken by surprise. Those in charge on the ground must have been involved, or at the very least turned a blind eye. They must be identified and held to account. Google pays its fines out of its pocket money. The only thing that will act as a deterrent is prison.

@ericbuijs @dyckron 150 Front Street in Toronto, as well a most telephone Central offices are built multi storey to save on land. Ad yes, that means re-enforced floors to support the heavy switching equipnent. 150 Front was the telegraph switching office next to the tracks. That all new data centres have to be vast single floor expanses is riduculous.

And not just the trees and their stumps: the top soil was also removed. It takes like a century or more for that to grow back.
@dyckron Well, nature strikes back, it is not to be blamed. At some point, man will eventually understand that nature with everything in it was there before him and has a natural right to be there 😑
And, if we continue like this, we shouldn't be surprised if things change☝️
