Bill Watterson: fortsatt like relevant!

@dyckron

I have a feeling no matter the results of the referendum this isn't going to go away. US meddling in foreign politics is like a playboy with a severe case of chlamydia, no restraint or willingness to seek a cure.

@Remittancegirl I mean, yes, but let's remember he wouldn't be where he is without many, many factors associated: the destruction of the meagre measures of equity and equality that held the social fabric initiated by Reagan, the continuation by his successors of either party, the War on Terror hysteria and the police state measures by the GOP, the racist backlash against Obama that the GOP rode in on…

The insanity of this is that Trump is funding a country who is supplying armaments to Iran, who the US is at war with.

This is such a perfect illustration of the obscene veil of geopolitical nonsense when it's pulled back.

There are men who want to cling onto power. They will do anything, fund anyone, kill any number of civilians, ruin any number of healthy economies.... just to hang onto their own personal power a few minutes longer.

#Musk🚨approached #Trump with the idea of slowing down #Starlink in #Ukraine, The Telegraph can reveal.
He approached the US president with the proposal to introduce speed limits on the system, which hampered UA’s drone defences, acc to 4 sources familiar with the discussions.
One of the sources said🚨Trump “agreed” with his suggestion, paving the way for the #DOD to execute the slowdown on #Starshield➡️the MIL communications system.

"That the right is not currently in power won’t stop it from wielding significant influence on what’s to come, in large part thanks to its dominance of Britain’s media ecosystem. Legacy media are not even hiding their attempts to shape November’s reforms before they are announced, with the Times this week launching a “welfare inquiry” to investigate the impact of the benefits “crisis” on public finances."

A friend just visited, her first time on the Continent. One of her few intractable goals for the trip was to have "real Italian pizza." Well my dear, this is Italy but it's a long way from pizza country. Have an espresso and calm down.

But she was relentless and even announced her plan proudly to the Italian, adding that the full dream included eating said pizza cold the next morning over a kitchen sink, as she does normally at home, only now in the country of its glorious origin.

"Protesters marched to Parliament on Friday to demand the government take urgent action to mitigate the impact of the climate crisis and El Niño conditions. These pose a growing threat to food systems across Southern Africa.

The group also want offshore oil and gas exploration and extraction to stop."

As Frances Ryan argues, Andy Burnham needs to resist the anti-benefits rhetoric of the Right, which presents those receiving benefits as 'grifters' or 'scroungers' living it up at tax-payers expense... and replace this with a rhetoric of compassion & understanding.

The Q. is can the anti-benefits mood music be turned down or will we see those in need scarified on the rock of fiscal probity?

Sadly the latter looks more likely.

There is no word the US media laps up with more credulity than "ceasefire". Anyone can "declare ceasefire" and suddenly, even if it was just a fart that sounded like the word, anything anyone does is in reference to the supposed "ceasefire" that, magically, is the state of play.

I truly wish every established news org in the country would fail and disappear. At this point, everything would be better if that happened.
