@IAmDannyBoling my TV is over 15 years old. I consider it bulky and obsolete, but given how surveiled we are these days, I may start seeing its antiquity as a feature.

We just got rid of our 16-year old tv so I understand. It's shocking that tv manufacturers can get away with apparently colluding to stop making dumb tvs bigger than 36".

I don't have tv, but I wouldn't let anything that wasn't *a computer I control connect to the web. I'm dreading the day my reliable dumb as a post appliances die, and have to be replaced.

*excluding my smartphone, which is a huge thorn in my side. I paid for it, yet somehow it isn't mine. One day I'll do something about that.

@IAmDannyBoling @lxskllr I don't even trust my fully degoogled LineageOS phone. I just didn't found any sensible and reliable way to examine its web traffic yet. All I currently know is its activity is surprisingly high, even if adblocker lists cut off many addresses.

If the world was as it should be, our governments would help protect us. We would still be violated, cause that's the way it works, but punishments for the companies would be, well... punishing. Not a trivial cost of doing business.

As it is, they have to "protect the children", "guard against terrorism", "prevent scams"... and if the governments themselves get some data they find useful for just about any reason, that's just great. For them...
