Well, I did it. It looked cool, but it was an annoying pain in the ass. I should have bagged the hops, but then it wouldn't have looked as cool, LOL
So I cut all of the flowering branches off of the larger central bines. This should be more manageable and will hopefully fit along with the immersion chiller.
The idea is to cram this into the kettle at the end of the boil. I'm not sure this is going to work...
Who's dumb ass idea was it to harvest hops in the middle of brewing??
I think this is the lowest FG I've ever witnessed.
This is a second wine I made on the Riesling and Chardonnay grapes in 2024 and just dropped a load of extra sugar on it to see what would happen. I expected a sweet wine, apparently they yeast didn't care.
Refractometer calcs puts the OG at 1.104 Making the ABV 16.7%
My in laws went to Iceland recently and brought back this dried fish for me (among other gifts, they don't hate me). It smells so strongly that even sealed inside two ziplock bags I can still smell it when I open the cabinet it's in...
If any winemaker tells you that their process is sanitary, they're lying to you. Grapes grow in a field, there's bugs on them when they're harvested. It's impossible to keep fruit flies away from the action.
I do this by hand so it's certainly worse for me than if I had industrial equipment processing everything but it's still impossible.
Yes, you can sterilize the juice after you get it out of the grapes, but there's still gonna be a tiny bit of bug juice in there.
Squeezing the blackberry wine today.
Anyone ever replaced a car key fob? Like bought a new one and programmed it to your car yourself? It's for a Honda if that matters.
Bitter Norwegian pale ale 6%
Using 1ml of hop extract at 60 minutes produced way more than the 10 IBUs I was told it would. This beer is quite bitter. I mitigated it a bit by adding calcium chloride to the finished beer, but it's still fairly bitter. I am a bit concerned for the 10 gallons of lager that got 4 ml of the exact (it's still fermenting).
I got new internet and now the bottleneck in the system is the cat5e cable I'm using
I'm making sourdough today and decided to do one of my two loaves with 3% chocolate malt in the grist (is grist the correct term here?). The color difference was subtle in the four but pronounced once the dough was mixed. I'll be baking later this evening or in the morning.
The hops are starting to get fairly tall. This photo was taken out of my second story window, so it's probably close to about 20 feet / 6 meters at this point.
My own post filters have blocked me from seeing my own post, LOL
Trump is adding his obnoxious image to US passports. So it is absolutely the duty of every other country to make some sort of passport stamp that makes him look like a clown or more of an idiot or something. I'm sure Denmark is probably up to this task, but it'd be great if loads of countries did this. Someone spread this idea to those consulants that can make this happen.
The dough rose so much I decided to just bake it today and skip the fridge ferment as there's not much bacteria in the culture anyway.
I milled some wheat to attempt making a loaf of bread using my wild 'abbey' yeast culture to leave it. Going to treat it kind of like a sourdough.
