    One of the things that I resent most about AI is that it makes uncreative people think that THEY created something, so let's normalize reminding these people that they just used a dumb robot to steal someone else's creativity.

    It reminds me of that garbage knockoff Banksy-adjacent guy called Mr. Brainwash who just thought of a bunch of dumb ideas and then had actual artists create it.

    @Alice Exactly. It’s all so…averaged.

    That they don’t get why that feels gross to people indicates they know nothing about art.

    @Alice I was starting to read some guides to creative writing and it struck me how it's exactly the practices such guides recommend that "generative AI" eliminates.

    It's exactly in the agonizing process of trying to write your thoughts and finding the gaps, and of revision after revision because it's not quite right, your meaning still isn't coming through, that you actually create meaning.

    It's part of my fundamental objection to "AI", that these are tools invented by people who are actively hostile to subjective experience.

    @Alice the exit through the giftshop guy?

    He reminded me of Andy Warhol. Im not too mad about this as a direct line of shittiness

    @ATLeagle I agree that Andy Warhol's "art" was kind of low effort, but at least he was taking his own photos and doing his own screen printing (I think).

    Mr. Brainwash was essentially copying Andy Warhol AND not creating any of the art on his own and just hiring artists to make it for him.

    @Alice

    Oh! This woman at work is exactly like that! She walks in to the lunch room with her phone blaring some generic metalcore nonsense and, without being asked, goes "I wrote this. Yeah, AI...." and that's about where I tune out whatever is being said next.

    Everything about it is obnoxious

    @Alice I don't like the idea of being mean to people. I think that can drive them deeper in the LLM well. Just to spite the person being a dick to them.

    But I can agree with, kindly, not pretending the generated image is their's. And with not commenting in the image's quality. If only to avoid the temptation of putting my frustration on them. And deny the possibility of them getting the unearned compliment they are looking for.

    @Alice always reminds me of terrible knock off pop culture t shirts you’d get in the 70s in tourist shops.

    @Alice While I don't disagree with the fundamental point, the framing here seems a bit superior and exclusive?

    @Alice Reminds me of the 80s when some people said that sampling is not real music and stealing. Or that a 808 is fake because the sound is generated by a computer. And also when photography emerged in the 1800s and people said that it's only for untalented people who can't draw properly.
    So... it's always the intent, not the tool.

    @Alice
    That same kind of person just made legal recreations of open source versions of Adobe Suite, Microsoft Office, and a whole slew of other extremely useful software.
    It is creative: but only from the standpoint of a boss/patron. Being expressive enough to delineate exactly what you want ... IS a skill. And naturally it causes jealousy (taking out the traditionally coveted skilled labourer).
