    @StopKillingGames @EUCommission The initiative is extremely bad and weak. These clauses basically change nothing:
    > Citizens must not be forced to identify themselves [..] unless strictly necessary, proportionate and provided by law
    > The legislation should require anonymous or pseudonymous proof-of-age, data minimisation, [etc.]
    There is no anonymous verification of age, there is no private system for any of that. Age verification should not exist AT ALL. It shouldn't require nor allow this

    Of curse there is a system of sound anonymous verification of age, that could be mandated back around 1998, but no politician is interested in anonymous #AgeVer. They want full control as they are sht..ng their paints in anticipation of what their fate might be once 100 of 500m Europeans will awake.

    If you asked about the verification? All we need is a single bit flag. And they know it. Even 'dawned on them' that instead of clicking bazzilion times cookie consent browser can emit a single byte with your permanent choices.

    And such a flag was proposed in 1999.

    Can you elaborate on how this system bars the German government from learning which site asked for the age confirmation for a person using this ID? Technically I mean, not what has been promised.

    One of the things that I found the most offensive were how some companies are apparently exploring potential for "liveness checks" which alongside age verification would require children to regularly take videos of themselves to prove their realness.

    And you don't need me to tell you how completely awful it is for children to get into the habit of sending video of themselves to strangers upon request.
