I’ve seen this spin a few times. I’m all ok with disabled people being helped by “smart” glasses. Make them prescription. It’s as simple as that.
This. Blind and visually impaired people fear smart glasses backlash:

PerlBod and I have embarked on a mission to get rid of our Echo devices and use Home Assistant instead:

The basic platform is up and running on a Raspberry Pi 5. Now just waiting for some sensors and voice i/o hardware to turn-up before I can tackle the voice assistant bit.

In 2026, the project advanced efforts to integrate #accessibility support data into #developer tools such as the Browser Compatibility Data (BCD) and Baseline, with a proof of concept using Web Platform Tests and ARIA-AT data. Work continues on filling data gaps and defining support statuses, with a TPAC 2026 breakout inviting community input!

Notably:
- Baseline Newly available: 3 #CSS functions that are alpha(), light-dark(), and progress(), and long await-ed in #JavaScript land, the await keyword can now be used at the top level of a module (outside of an async function) across latest versions of main browsers.
- Baseline Widely available: checkVisibility() to check whether an element is potentially visible!

Quite some people disagree that https://nonfunctional.substack.com/p/passkeys-are-a-trap-do-not-use-them is an excellent expose about passkeys, as I suggested, e.g. https://hachyderm.io/@rmondello/117428258722253709

#DeveloperSignals was introduced to help inform future platform work based on #developer feedback. Through the web-features project, an open catalog assigning unique identifiers to web platform features, WebDX connects previously fragmented sources such as specifications, @mdn browser compatibility data, tests, and surveys, helping developers better understand and use the Web.

Is this the end of Deno as an alternative to node.js?
"We will support the Deno runtime for another year with monthly releases containing bug fixes and security updates. After that year we will end our development of the Deno runtime. Deno will remain open source, and we welcome others who want to continue its development."

Can anyone recommend an Air-to-Air pump fitter that covers the Bristol (UK) area? Note that these are not the same as the Air-to-Water heat pumps that just handle heating - which is, it seems, why they're few and far between. TIA.

Regulations limiting children’s access to online content have been broadly and rapidly deployed recently, which require that users provide assurance of their age. The consequences of these regulations may result in major changes to the web.
Tara Whalen and Amir Sharif are leading a mini-workshop to explore Age Assurance as part of #w3cTPAC in Dublin on 28 October.
The deadline for proposals has been extended to 8 October. See more at:
