@w3c is rolling out Activity pages for its groups, offering a month-by-month overview of their work in one place. They bring together their charters, publications, meetings, participants, and GitHub activity.

The pages are in beta, and we welcome your feedback! https://github.com/w3c/w3c-website/issues

The project will also be discussed at #w3cTPAC during a breakout session to explore how this activity data could better serve the W3C community.

In 2026, the project advanced efforts to integrate #accessibility support data into #developer tools such as the Browser Compatibility Data (BCD) and Baseline, with a proof of concept using Web Platform Tests and ARIA-AT data. Work continues on filling data gaps and defining support statuses, with a TPAC 2026 breakout inviting community input!

There's a really cool alignment feature in CSS Grid Lanes that makes items stretch along the stacking axis, filling any remaining empty space.

It's great when you don't want the usual jagged edge at the end of your layout.

Wrote about it here ➡️ https://patrickbrosset.com/articles/2026-06-19-alignment-in-css-grid-lanes/#:~:text=Aligning%20items%20within%20their%20lanes

Notably:
- Baseline Newly available: 3 #CSS functions that are alpha(), light-dark(), and progress(), and long await-ed in #JavaScript land, the await keyword can now be used at the top level of a module (outside of an async function) across latest versions of main browsers.

- Baseline Widely available: checkVisibility() to check whether an element is potentially visible!

#SVG fans rejoice! \o/

As of today there is a fresh version of SVG2 with corrections, clarifications and improvements for more interoperability, in particular in implementations in web browsers.

RE: https://w3c.social/@w3c/117393555521007349

Today the @w3c has published a new version of the SVG2 Candidate Recommendation.

* CR is at https://www.w3.org/TR/2026/CR-SVG2-20261006/
* Editor's draft (freshest version) https://w3c.github.io/svgwg/svg2-draft/
* Spec Issues https://github.com/w3c/svgwg/issues/

The SVG Working Group is actively trying to remove the paper cuts and have something which is interoperable. There are many parts of the spec which are not fully tested in WPT. One step at a time, we are improving it.

If you see implementation bugs, issues with the spec, missing tests, do not hesitate to report them. It will help a lot.

#DeveloperSignals was introduced to help inform future platform work based on #developer feedback. Through the web-features project, an open catalog assigning unique identifiers to web platform features, WebDX connects previously fragmented sources such as specifications, @mdn browser compatibility data, tests, and surveys, helping developers better understand and use the Web.

Thursday was the 32nd anniversary of the founding of W3C. @dontcallmeDOM noted: "I'm proud that W3C has been a shepherd of the web and encouraged at all the people at W3C who are passionate about a web designed for the good of its users."

32 is a power of two (2^5), so a nice milestone for the geeks among us. To celebrate our 0b100000th anniversary, we've updated our donation pages to power of 2 values — for donations above 2^32, please DM us.

W3C issues press release about developing Verifiable Credential Barcodes

Recently the data theft of approximately 160 million drivers licenses from the US and Canada was reported and unfortunately, identity thieves will use this data to impersonate victims.

Real-time revocation is needed to protect individuals against identity theft. W3C Verifiable Credential Barcodes are the solution to the future of physical document security. Read more at:

#VerifiableCredentials

I take precisely zero credit for this but the W3C Verifiable Credentials WG that I have the privilege to co-chair has just published a bunch of Threat Models. That is, a series of docs that literally answer the question:

What could possibly go wrong?

VCs are all about proof and provenance. They're a target for bad actors so here's what the WG has worked on to defend against attacks https://www.w3.org/news/2026/first-draft-notes-verifiable-credential-threat-models/

Kudos to Manu, Simone, Joe and others. And to @w3c for this process step.

Are you interested in the positive and negative impacts of Generative AI on society and its intersection with W3C's Ethical Web Principles and Vision?

The State of HTML 2026 survey is now open!

“This is for everyone” or “free-for-all”?

The web has shifted from its original open, sharing-focused vision toward concerns over protecting vulnerable populations, copyright and AI data usage, and centralized social media that obscure data sharing and provenance.

Pierre-Antoine Champin and Viivi Lähteenoja will lead a mini-workshop at TPAC2026 in Dublin to explore new forms of data governance, data ownership, and decentralized alternatives.
