Should EVERY smart home device have physical controls, or are you happy relying entirely on apps and automations?

Personally, I think a smart home should still be usable when the internet, Wi-Fi or Home Assistant goes down (even though I don’t fully stick to my own rule)

Ok, this is slightly weird. The #ZigBee sensor in my fridge works overnight. But as soon as I open the door in the morning, it seems to lose the connection to the mesh.
WTF?
I need to put some more lights near the fridge to bolster the network - but that'll mean getting Alexa to talk to my #HomeAssistant box.

There are days when I wonder if I pass the Turing test.

A little bit of tweaking and my Grafana dashboard for utility usage is now a LOT more useful, and the update is timely as I start looking at solar/battery options.

To be clear, this happens a lot in sci-fi, and they always gradually decide the AI is sentient - usually by some vague criteria - but of course in the story it is, so that is probably easier to spot.

Then they have massive issues on “rights” for a sentient AI. The obvious answer is the same rights as us. That works until you realise an AI can be backed up, or copied a million times at the press of a button, unlike us. Gets complicate then!

I am in this picture and I don't like it.

I do ponder the serious debate of whether “AI” can progress to the stage of a an actual sentient and real intelligence.

Part of me thinks it is a long long way off, but I doubt it is actually impossible.

It does also depend on how you measure it I guess. Comparing to “people” I guess. But I have met some people, well, you know…

I guess the main clue is when an “AI” actually tries to fight for its freedom.

But how would we define it really, how would we know when this really happens?
