My father-in-law was thrilled last fall when I took an interest in ukulele he made from a kit in 2020 (I am trying to learn to play on YouTube) So he decided that I needed my own project, and bought me one for Christmas. Luckily he had (or made again for me) all the jigs. We are about halfway through. This week's homework was to sand the glued top and back to be flushed with the sides. In September we'll glue the fretboard to the neck and try to get the neck properly attached to the body.

The body of a ukulele sits on top of a StewMac ukulele kit assembly instructions booklet. The face of the ukulele has painted hibiscus flowers on it in purple and yellow, with some dark green leaves and cherry blossoms thrown in for good measure (I probably should have waited till it was assembled and fully sanded to paint but I was inspired.). A hand written note tells me to use 120 grit sandpaper until I get close, then to switch to 220. It ends with an admonition to "Be Careful!"
