Oct 16, 2026, 8:11 PM... or maybe the people who wanted to meet with me won't actually show up. That's cool too, I guess. I have lots of writing to do...

Meeting delayed via email, people still didn't show up, sent apologetic email asking if I could still meet, no one showed up to my second zoom meeting, and now I'm playing email tag with the first people and severely regretting not blowing everything off and going for a bike ride instead. Which might still happen if they don't respond soon.

At least I finished a cool plot for the incredibly obscure mixed-mode resonant dynamics paper that maybe someday I'll actually get to finish writing.

Oh this is good too. You don't even need to know anything about what this is showing, it's just neat looking.

This is showing the behaviour of the equation below with different values of m and n. This is using the measured orbital elements of a real TNO, showing how it's constrained by Neptune on long timescales. Mean-motion resonances are SO COOL and I'd much rather work on this than satellite pollution.

ErinChateauErin@mastodon.socialOct 16, 2026, 9:34 PM@sundogplanets whoa. is each tick on horizontal a single Myr?
I really like the character of it tho. I'm going to send it to some art friends
- Prof. Sam Lawlersundogplanets@mastodon.socialOct 16, 2026, 9:49 PM
@ChateauErin I like that that one sort of dissolves into static (as the object falls out of the mean-motion resonance). But the more tightly constrained one I posted after is also very cool looking.

@sundogplanets oh yeah. The "Dazzle Camo" look is very cool. I've honestly been tempted to get clothing based on that before

Oh, cool! I'd hang that on my office wall.The first one looks like it could be a kessler simulation? Like, the way it starts fairly well defined then gets all staticky and messy.

@otte_homan degrees

Olga Lovick (she/her)transitionalaspect@fnordon.deOct 16, 2026, 9:14 PM@sundogplanets go for the bike ride. This morning, I reached the point where I wanted to throw all the computers into the river and go for a walk. I didn't. Now I'm still at the desk and my to-do list has grown to indescribable lengths.
- Prof. Sam Lawlersundogplanets@mastodon.socialOct 16, 2026, 9:30 PM
@transitionalaspect Yeah, bike ride time (or at least walk in the woods time) is just about to start. Just have to wait for the schoolbus at this point.
