    You can just stop caring about the border. It doesn't fucking matter. Let people come here if they want. Make them citizens. Let them vote. It's a fake issue. If someone brings it up, you say, "Fuck you, you fucking racist." It's nothing but a seed for fascism.

    @gwynnion I'm still getting GOP flyers screaming about the need "to secure our southern border." Dude, this is New Hampshire. Our southern border is Massachusetts. Sure, if you want to protect us from the Boston techbros buying up second homes here and driving up housing prices, let's talk. But I don't think Mexico poses any threat to us.

    @computerchronicles Yeah, it was always racist bullshit but when northern Republicans started acting like they were personally under assault as part of the bit, it insulted our intelligence.

    @computerchronicles All these militia wannabe asswipes showing up here in Texas to discover -- there's nothing. There's no invasion, no caravans, no "cartel narco-terrorists." They were lied to. But they never learn or change.

    @gwynnion What makes it especially counterproductive here in New England is that everyone knows there's a depopulation crisis. Vermont is practically empty. And New Hampshire is losing people at a faster rate due to housing costs, which as I alluded to before is largely due to rich out-of-staters buying up properties for second homes/short-term rentals. Even most Republicans here know this, but they feel obliged to follow the racist BS coming from the Christian nationalists.

    @gwynnion @computerchronicles Having fallen for the bamboozle, the victim's first instinct is to defend the swindler. The sucker has convinced himself that if he can only convince one other person of the Secret Inside Occult Truth he invested time, money, hope and outrage in, then maybe he's really onto something and should continue with the investment.

    @gwynnion

    Why the fuck do I care if someone crossed an imaginary line because they heard this country was a land of opportunity? Let them come. Let them work. Let them make America great.

    It's already illegal to do crimes. If someone breaks the law, they already broke the law. Alleged "Somali immigrant fraud" is just "fraud".

    The only reason to get mouth frothingly upset about immigration, the only reason to blame an entire demographic for an individual's crime is white supremacy.

    @gwynnion Crazy notion, I know, but if immigrants really were committing a shitload of crime en masse, maybe just deal with immigrant criminals the way you deal with non-immigrant criminals?

    RE: Republicans cannot let that happen. They are already outnumbered 4 to 1 and somehow manage to stay close in General Elections. The more and more Young People grow up with A.I. Powered Smartphones in their hands, learn and come to know the U.S. History of Politics and understand all of the lies that spew from that Party, then the better chance that they will not be able to hold power anymore. Gen Z got burned so badly by Trump. They will never vote Republican again for Generations

    @gwynnion All of this is very true. Here's why some parties are so interested in enriching any feeling of hate and division.
    Don't underestimate however how deep it's buried in human behavior: it explains why isn't enough uncovering it, to resolve it.

    @gwynnion Every issue the Republicans have is fake. Immigration, transgender, taxes, they are all just a way to get people to vote against their own interests.

    @gwynnion lived in #arizona for ten years during the Sheriff Arpaio years. Like him, most of the worst vitriol came from people who retired there. Like they were just upset there was an international border there they weren’t aware of before they moved from Ohio or Mass or whatever. The folks I knew who had been there for generations weren’t like that and they missed the days of day trips and vacations in #mexico

    @woodenmachines Yeah. I've lived in Texas my entire life and Mexico is just part of the culture here. I know lots of people who travel back and forth constantly, especially to visit family or get healthcare done on the cheap. It's just a non-issue. There's always a big love-in around Cinco de Mayo and this year around World Cup and then the state sheepishly covers it all up and goes back to its white supremacist bullshit.

    @gwynnion it's a core point with them: they want to assert the power to regulate citizenship as they see fit (along racist lines) while also emphasizing their law-and-order credentials. "The [whatever] committed a crime! They're criminals!!1!" just from crossing a line...they live for that shit
