Remember a couple of weeks back, where I was talking about the issues we were having streaming games to Apple TV?

Well, at this stage I'm 80% certain it's caused by AirDrop, and in particular, my MacBook.

    Which is stupid.

Now pondering using one of the Dell micro PCs I have as a Steam Link. I don't imagine it'll need to be particularly beefy just to accept a stream from another device on the network.

    *ponderations intensify*

I did briefly wonder about installing it in a container on the machine that's running my router, but a) it's probably not wise to put that extra burden on it, and b) I'm not sure Proxmox will allow it to access the HDMI output.

Having Done My Research, it would appear that a VM running in Proxmox can indeed have access to the HDMI port, and to Bluetooth for the controller. And given that the router side of things needs very little power, I think I'm going to try this.

Just need to work out how to go about it. And if it doesn't work, all I need to do is delete the VM and I'll have lost nothing.

@DJDarren the way AirDrop sometimes works, sometimes does not work at all, seemingly arbitrarily, and there is no way of troubleshooting when it doesn’t is ridiculous

@sjoerd AirDrop and AirPlay are, together, a magic box the contents of which I can't really comprehend.

For example: T watches TikTok, saves ones they know I'll enjoy, and beams them to the TV. This has worked (mostly) well for several years, until last week. TikTok put out an update so that it sometimes works, but mostly doesn't, so now T has to AirPlay the whole screen, not just the video.

    What's the difference? Fuck knows.
