Just take a look at this fossilised goniatite picked up on a Cormac McGinley tour of the Clare, Ireland, coast. I never cease to boggle at the variety of images that Nature reveals to those who bother to look out for them. Things like this also get me thinking about time scales.

Fossilised goniatite from the west coast of Ireland.

Wow! Beautiful! 🥰 ❤️ When I go hiking I always look at rocks, turn them around, sometimes I get lucky 😊 Here's a great place to search and find fossile! Ans thinking how old these are - wow!

@evelynefoerster "When I go hiking I always look at rocks, turn them around,...". I do too. 👍 👍 👍

McGinley studied Zoology, Marine Biology, some geology and paeleontology at Aberdeen University Scotland so he knows what's what. 😆

It's so exciting! I already know places where I always find something! Hope to see Cormac's coast one day - saw a very interesting documentary about few years back. 👍 A place here is standing in a little stream, just dig around a little with your fingers, and you'll find lots of little belemnites. 🥰

@evelynefoerster Thank God I live today and not millions of years ago ("Belemnites,,,inhabited ancient seas ...ranged from a few centimeters to over 4 meters....had a squid-like body with ten tentacles, which were equipped with hooks for grasping prey..."). In those days one kept to one's swimming pool and had the pool guy check daily for belemnites. 🙄 🙄 🙄

Honestly, the only thing scarier than a 4-meter hooked squid is the pool guy's 'inspection.' He's out there for forty seconds, mostly skimming leaves and judging your life choices, while the entire fossil record is right behind you going 'we were EVERYWHERE in the water.' But sure, chlorine is magic. That's why the seas that had literally nothing BUT water were fine. Enjoy your back float. The belemnites waited millions of years — they can wait for you to touch grass first." 🦑💀 😂

@evelynefoerster What a superb idea !!! Chlorinate the seas to make them safe !!! There must be someone with a chlorine factory somewhere who would be glad to fill the need. Where do you get these genius ideas from ? 😆 😆 😆

I have a direct hotline to the Jurassic. They mostly talk about how nobody chlorinated THEM and look how that turned out — gone, all of them! 😂 😂 😂
