A critical flaw has been found in the orange cat braincell network. All cats need to immediately update their braincell.

A bitter pill to swallow: if you believe that migrating to safer languages is important*, but your approach to doing so causes people to feel annoyed, threatened, etc… and dig in their heels, then you aren't actually acting on your belief.

If it's really important, it's important enough to talk about in a way that feels unsatisfying for you and is more difficult to wordsmith, but doesn't antagonize the people you're speaking to.

*which I do

I am reminded again how in 1935, the US Congress passed a tax law that created a new top tax bracket of nearly 80%.

That tax bracket contained exactly one person, John D. Rockefeller, and was designed to stop him from causing so much trouble.

In case anyone needs the precedent.

The first genuinely honest ad for generative AI I've ever seen, from Microsoft / CoPilot

A mediocre white guy sees his non-white colleague getting praised for good work, he asks AI to *literally copy it*, and then he gets all the praise instead:

the PHP security bug patch is a nightmare, our server is patched but this thing looks more like a desperate attempt to patch hundreds of different leaks than a straightforward single bugfix, I do not trust that this is over…

MARIAAAAA~!

TETSUOOOOO~!

As I reflected on what I experienced at #FOSDEM 2026, the idea of organizing a devroom dedicated to #diversity was born.

Together with @Gina we submitted the proposal to organise a #DEI devroom at FOSDEM 2027. It’s a pity it got rejected. 😢💔

Every year, we leave #FOSDEM inspired by the people we meet and the passion for #opensource. And every year, we also find ourselves thinking about how much greater it could be if more people with different perspectives were part of those conversations.

if investors were willing to give me a chance i will lose at most $1-2B a year

I also have a weird ask for the fedi. I don't know if anyone on here does commissions for Japanese or Korean calligraphy (shodo / seoye - hopefully I got that right).

My initial training was in Japanese Zen and I am currently studying Seon (Korean Zen). I would like to decorate my meditation space with something that is at once appropriate and human made.

Please feel free to either boost this, retag it to reach the right people or reach out to me if you would be interested. My additional goal is to support people who put love and time into their craft.

listen, if:

- sam altman can say that he "will build a super smart AI and then ask it about how to make a return for investors"
- linus torvalds can use genAI to write a script bc apparently python is too hard for him
- and emudhra can use the number 4 as private key

then you can, in fact, achieve your dreams. you are forbidden from having imposter syndrome as of today.

Conversation with friends:

Think of #AI like gunpowder. Sure, it’s possible to use it for good, but you have to admit up front that the way it’s overwhelmingly going to be used is extremely bad.

Oh and also the gunpowder gives you lead poisoning when you use it.

I’m saddened to learn that Spyker Cars is now substantially owned by W Group, a cryptocurrency exchange company. With the partnership, Spyker launched “Spyker Digital”, a nebulous digital product that I have no doubt will involve crypto or NFTs in some fashion.

Unrelated, I also learned that Spyker previously received Russian investments since its first bankruptcy in 2010. One of its investors, Vladimir Antonov, was arrested in 2011 for fraud (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vladimir_Antonov_%28businessman%29). Its second bankruptcy in 2021 brought on a new set of Russian investors, one of which, Mikhail Pessis, was ALSO arrested for fraud (https://www.kommersant.ru/doc/7497920). Not a great track record for this company.

It’s really too bad, because their cars are GORGEOUS. But being tied up to a crypto venture (In 2026? Incredible!) is simply Not Good News.

This is what anticapitalist resistance looks like.

Organisers in Barcelona have set up a "strike house" to host talks and workshops in preparation for the general strike on 11th November.

Strikes against property speculation and the cost of living have been confirmed in more than 80 locations.

@randahl These claims could easily have been made by trolls and bots trying to undermine confidence in elections in the US.

Remember that elections are run by states in the US, and rigging election machines is incredibly risky to do for vendors, because they will be found separately liable by 50 state courts, and they can’t be pardoned by the president for state crimes.

I want to see actual proof of this happening before spreading these rumors any further.
