    Management has gone down the AI rabbit hole so deeply it’s going to be very interesting to watch them try to climb out of it and start talking about software talent again.

    We can do us all ourselves a favor by relentlessly reminding ourselves and THEM that they thought AI was a great idea and that this says something about their usefulness I got.

    They own it. They own it all

    Every big company right now is racing to say they use AI. Few are tracking what it actually costs per engineer, per workflow, per quarter.

    This is going to happen at hundreds of companies this year. lol.

    @nixCraft Yeah, I don't understand the pricing of Gitlab Duo. I tested it to review a single Merge Request. They billed me ~25 Dollars for it. Gitlab seems to be the most expensive thing you can have in the AI world at the moment.

    They're _really_ starting to push Claude where I'm at now. So much so that my boss was asked, "Hey, how come 401matthall is showing _zero_ usage in Claude?"

    ...

    Because it's an amoral theft machine that no sane person/company should put their IP into _ever_ given the state of IP law?

    Because it's _literally_ driving an industry that's delightfully poisoning communities with hazard fumes, poisoned water, and driving the cost of living through the roof?

    Because it's _shit_?

    @nixCraft And THAT, children, is why we never make our ability to be productive contingent on giving someone else money.

    Whether that's paying by the token for an LLM, paying for a cloud service, or even any non-lifetime software license, don't do it. You might get quite a significant productivity boost in the short term, but eventually, you WILL be left in the cold when the company you're paying goes under or changes subscription models, and best case scenario, you're just trying to use it less instead of training yourself to use a completely different tool and relearning all your muscle memory.
